Black and White Christmas Tree Decor

"Christmas isn't just a day. It's a frame of mind."
Let's test your Christmas movie knowledge ... Do you know what movie that quote is from!?
I'm not telling you : )
This year we mixed it up and instead of the classic green tree, we opted for a black tree. I was worried it might look a little gothic, but it turned out wonderful! I think the red checkered ribbon warmed up the tree and the faux reindeer head with gold antlers .... well let's just say it's freaking awesome! See where everything is from below.

Ok, so when using a black Christmas tree, you have to keep all the other decor very minimal. The black and white color combo is classic so think "clean". In other words, don't load the tree with a tun of crap.

The black tree is 4.5' and it's from Hayneedle and it was 60% off. The black wreath is also from Hayneedle and on sale. The faux fur tree skirt was only $19 from Home Goods and it ties in with my fabulous faux reindeer head from Joss and Main.

The black and white throw is actually just raw material from Joanne's Fabric that I picked up last year in the clearance section. I surged the ends and made it into a blanket. It ties in the dark Christmas tree, and also plays off my black and white striped rug from Crate and Barrel. Different colored throws are great accessories to change up your room. You would be surprised how you can change the whole look of a room with a throw and some new pillows. And speaking of pillows, the yellow velvet pillow is from Anthropologie and you would think it's a random fit for an all black and white theme, but it really ties everything together and feels super cozy. And the couch, which everyone always comments on, is a custom piece from Restoration Hardware .... so I basically I got screwed on that one because it sure wasn't cheap lol!

Here is a close up of the tree. I used clear ornaments from Michaels (white would also be nice) and the ribbon is from Home Goods. The ribbon is wire-edged ribbon which is perfect for your Christmas tree because you can tie each ribbon right around one branch and it makes for a perfectly shaped bow, every time.

The Christmas tree star started as a cheapo silver glitter star from Michaels and I spray painted it so it looked rusty and tied in with my faux fur and metallic-rust faux antlers.
