DIY Belt Rug

A couple months ago I went to an event at Tastemade.com and I toured all the film sets. They had one set in particular that was freaking ahhhammmmazing. The floors were made entirely of leather belts. They had literally nailed hundreds of belts to the floor. So for the last 2 months I have been thinking about making these damn leather belt floors. Obviously at a much smaller scale : ) And guess whattttt? I made the leather floor .... I made a DIY rug version! I actually made it today on the "Home and Family" show on the Hallmark Channel (weekdays 10am/9c) ... scroll down to these this awesome tutorial.

Alright this is what you do. You need to first get a piece of fabric that is going to be the exact size of your rug. I recommend using Pleather (faux leather) or something just as durable. Lay your belts on the fabric in the pattern you want and with scissors cut the belt buckle off one side and then trim the other side to fit the rug. I left some of the belt holes on because I thought it looked cool having a variety. Mix and match colors too.

Now that everything is in place and in a pattern you want to take off 3 belts at a time (starting from the end and apply a tun of glue directly to the faux leather. I made a big zig zag pattern with the glue and was sure to cover a big area. Quickly press your belts down on the rug and if some of them pop up place a giant belt on top of them to keep them flat. The glue dries very fast. The exact glue I used is below.

This is the glue I used. It's awesome because it's supppppper sticky and it dries very fast. Only do two or three belts at a time because it really dries fast. I used 2 bottles of this for the giant rug seen in the picture.
